Default Surging and engine overheating

Ihavea 1994 Honda Accord EX with a F22 in it I am having problems with whenever I start the car it will idle find for about a minute then the engine starts to surge on its own. It use to do it before if you would rev the engine before it warmed up but now it does it all the time. I am also having a problem with the car over heating it started when the my upper radiator hose was leaking coolant I replaced the hose then the thermostat and it is still over heating any help is appreciated thanks.

The idle could be a problem with air bubbles in the cooling system or low coolant level. Bleed the coolant system and see if that fixes the idle problem.

As for the over heating problem. It cold also be related to air bubbles/low coolant level or it may be that your new thermostat is not opening. Fill and Bleed your system then Let your car run for a bit and feel the upper and lower hoses. If the upper hose is cold and the lower is extremely hot than it's your thermostat. make sure it is in facing the proper direction.

I appreciate the advice I am going to give it a try I added some more coolant she was still a little low I just have to bleed the system to see if there is any air in the system. You said it does not matter if the car is running or not? I will give it a try and see what happen. Thanks

To bleed your system yes your car should be running with the rad cap off adding coolant until bubbles stop coming out of the bleeder valve and you have just coolant coming out. Sorry about that!

your surging is coming from your FICV aka the fast idle control valve or u have a leak on ur intake somewhere, check it real good with ur hands and feel around the intake when u have ur car started.

Yes you should check for vacuum leaks but don't go messing around with your FICV, aka Fast Idle Thermal Valve (FITV), your Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), or your Idle speed adjusting screw. Until you are sure that you have properly bled your cooling system and there are no vacuum leaks anywhere. I have seen too many people jump right to adjusting these valves and then wonder why nothing ever works properly again after finding the real problem and fixing it.

After you have checked that it is not a low coolant problem look into the idle control systems. There is a good write up on how to clean your IACV & FITV and adjust idle speed in the Accord FAQ's.

This entire thread from page 1-3 is full of good info on how to clean the idle control system. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1844067
