By the way, what year Accord??

Ball joints - front.
Either uppers or lowers
Honda had a Mickey Mouse TSB on this and also a Recall on this for certain models.
Check if you were involved in the recall. If not, disregard the TBS and go directly to replacing the effected joints.

Yup, same suspension set-up from '90 to '97.
You're a prime candidate for creaking Ball Joints

I'm new to the forum and have a similar problem with a "mystery" squeak. Today the wife comes home and tells me her 2001 Accord V6 is making a funny noise coming from the front so, I pop the hood and start looking around and grabbing things that aren't hot. Nothing loose.

I push down on the drivers side fender and "squeak"...squeak, squeak, the right side is silent. My first thought was Strut, cccrrrrraaaaappp. Called the Honda dealer and got a price quote for $142 per strut in the box.

I then googled the problem and found this site.. I've read all the answers on this thread and even went out and drove around the neighborhood, windows down, stopping a starting, hitting bumps and could hear a distinctive squeak. The noise wasn't very loud when I turned the wheel like it was when I pushed on the fender.

So, how do I test weather the noise is coming from bushings or is the strut bad?

How does one tell which one it is or could it be both, how can I isolate the noise?

A ball joint will "creak" when you either jounce the suspension OR turn the steering wheel.
A Stabalizer bar bushing will do it only when you jounce the suspension

Thanks for the answer. I'll have to get me book on the parts and pieces of the Accord front end and how to isolate the ball joints and stabilizer bar bushings.

bushings can also be isolated by using a lube most of the time.

Any particular lube work best? I figure I'll get under it and spray some WD-40 on the bushings. If the noise goes away then that's the problem. If it doesn't then I'll have to start looking at struts.

Any recommendations on a good repair manual?

Anything which is not water soluable.
Silicone grease, Lithium grease ect.
I've even used Assembly Lube (Moly Lube).
Some Chevy techs even learned a technique of wrapping the Stabalized Bar in Teflon Tape to quiet Chevy Cavalier bushings.

Manual? Helms if you can find one.
