Speedometer issues
Hi,
I have replaced the VSS (two new but non-OE, one original used) on my '96 Accord LX 4-spd a few times in the last month, none seem to clear the CEL. The speedometer, tripometer, cruise control do not work. Does it matter if the car is auto or manual when replacing the VSS? The fuse is good. It's looking like I might need to replace the speedometer; does one that records mileage in Kilometers (from a CDN car) installed on a Miles vehicle (US made car) make any difference? i.e., is the mileage recorded in miles or kilometers? Do I need to replace the entire speedometer or is there a specific component from the speedometer that only needs replacing?
Appreciate all and all replies!

If the speed sensor is new then there is likely an open in the wiring going to the ecu.
for your car the vss should be on the c connector at pin 18
.:FFS TechNet : OBD2a ECU Pin out Schematics :.
you would check for continuity from the speed sensor to that pin

Thanks for your reply!
I discovered part of a pin/connector inside the VSS when I took it out. I then looked at the plug and sure enough one of the connectors was missing part of the pin. Went to the salvage yard and pulled a newer plug, installed it, and viola (!) it works, including the speedometer!! Figuring this out has taken many months. I suspect the pin was loose and part of it eventually fell off.
