Shifter problems!!!
Alright this is driving me nuts and has been going on for a while.
A couple months ago right after I changed my timing belt I lost reverse. I could feel where the gear was but just couldn't get there with the shifter. It was like something was holding it up and it would get stuck. The other gears particularly first and fifth are sometimes hard to get as well. It eventually went away however.
I didn't think much of it until today, I figured maybe a pulled something out of adjustment when I lowered the engine a bit to get the timing cover off.
Then today I'm racing along when I foolishly release the clutch too early and scratch third pretty good. Go to park and no reverse. Now that I look back the same thing happened right before I lost reverse last time.
I'm gonna pull apart the console soon and see if anything is out of whack there. Not really sure what to look for. Could the shifter cables be out of adjustment or something, cuz near as I can tell the tranny itself is fine?
Please help me out here, I'm clueless when it comes to trannies. Thanks in advance

Re: Shifter problems!!! (Schmitey)
I have heard some weird things about reverse sometimes, try to just release the clutch slowly when you trying to get it into reverse, this is what you have to do on my friends honda to get it to reverse, if it just wont go in at all, I am not sure.

you might be having a synchro issue. however, ive found that all you have to do if you cant get it into reverse is just mess with it a bit. i usually put it into neutral, release the clutch and then try again for reverse. if that doesnt work, putting it into first, then fifth and then reverse usually does...i dont really know why, but thats what gets the job done for me

hey hows it goin
the exact same thing happened to me and all i did was mess around with it like "propwdialogue" said. just really try to jam it in there. once you finally get it in it should be good..
hope this helps

with my F22 accord, sometimes when i try and put the car into reverse its like it doesnt go all the way into the gear, so i just drop the shifter back into neutral, then let up on the cluth, push the clutch down again and usually it goes right into the gear, its weird but thats how it is...

Re: (Confuc1ous)
Thanks for the input but I don't thank you guys completely understand. The stick won't go far enough to the right to even feel reverse. It's not that I can't get it to engage its that I can't even feel where the gear actually is.
And for whoever said it the reason reverse is hard to engage is because THERE IS NO SYNCRO. Almost every car is like this. That's why you have to roll it to get it to go.

take a look at the shifter cables rod ends inside the shifter base, they have a small pivoting nylon ball inserts, they will wear out and eventually fall apart this might be your problem. does the shifter feel loose side to side front to rear if so check it out. Honda does not sell these (nylon bushings) you will have to get new shifter cables.

Re: Shifter problems!!! (Qfactor)
Took apart the console the other day and didn't see anything out of place. Granted I didn't really know what I was looking at though.
And damn the previous owner was a slob!!! Dog hair and **** all over the place under there, grose.
