sounds like the torque convertor is locking up which I know the Accord V6 does in 3rd and 4th gear but I am not sure if the 4 cylinder is supposed to lock up the torque convertor in 3rd but I know it does in 4th. If it is a v6 then no need to worry it is perfectly normal if it is a 4 cylinder then maybe one of the other guys on here can shed some light on that. No matter if you have a V6 or a 4 cylinder your car should do this in 4th as well.

its a 4 cylinder and in 4th it doesnt reach redline so the rpms stay low and cuts off at 115 mph thanks for the info hope someone else can shed some light on the subject

well most likely it is locking up the torque convertor in third gear which would explain why the revs drop down. I am pritty sure this is normal for the 4 cylinder. I know it is for the v6

it is normal for the torque convertor to lock up in higher gears so that the automatic transmission becomes more efficient. I wouldnt worry about it.

The reason it stops revving in fourth is because you hit the governor.

no it is not hitting the govenor. What happens is the lockup torque convertor (which slips untill it locks up) locks in 3rd gear and 4th gear. 3rd gear is usually harder to notice but in 4th with an auto it is quite easy. if you are just cruising push down the accelerator a little bit and the revs will jump up but it will not go back into third gear and this is provable (is that even a word) because the RPMS will be lower than they would need to be in the 3rd gear ratio so there is no way it could be going that fast in that low of RPMs in 3rd thus it is still in 4th. Plus the car does not stop reving!!!! You will be accelerating then the RPMS will drop down due to lockup of the torque convertor and then you will resume accelerating. My accord lcoks up the torque convertor at about 110mph under full throttle applications. Under cruising applications it locks up the torque convertor when ever the extra power of the higher rpms of when it is not locked is needed.

[edit] notice how he was talking about the rpms dropping down in 3rd gear and then it resuming to swing toward the redline so how could it have stopped reving????
