Default Replace Engine Splash Shield?

Ignorant question:
My plastic engine splash shield on my 2002 Honda Accord SE has worn down due to driving on a severely inclined parking garage ramp. I've secured it for the time being, but I want to know if this needs to be replaced or if I may simply remove it.
Thanks.

I've had mine off for a year, and you wont really get any major problems, but I have to tell you that one time last year I drove through a large puddle and water splashed up onto my distributor and my car was dead for about 2 days until it all dried. If I weren't so broke I'd buy one. My research has shown that the cheapest one online with shipping is at the accord store. (T.A.S.)

I'm forced not to drop my car because of this!
