repeated check engine problems and D4 blinking
hi,
i have honda accord 2000 LX auto and the check engine light is on and D4 blinks when i am driving. i went to autozone and checked the code . it was p1705. this the third time the same symptoms has happened. First time i went to honda dealer they said it was due to security system and i removed it .
second time it happened they said nothing is wrong and they just reset the check engine light. This is the third time it is happening and i don't have any security system. i am tired of getting ripped off by the honda dealers by paying 80 dollars just to reset the check engine light. does anybody know what might be the issue . also i noticed that the check engine light comes on the day when it is raining and i hit 60m/h. is it transmission problem since 2000 models have these problems and honda has extended warrenty on these
thanks

Yeah, P1705 is a transmission problem. That's also why the D4 light was blinking.
I don't know why they said it had anything to do with a security system? Maybe it had a different code stored those first 2 times?

Here's what Honda has to say about that:
If an aftermarket security system, starter cutoff
device, or remote starter is plugged into the starter
cut relay circuit on an A/T-equipped ’96–02
Accord or ’98–03 Civic, or a ’98–03 Odyssey or ’03
Pilot, the PCM could “think” the A/T is in two
gears at the same time and set A/T DTC P1705
[transmission range switch (short to ground)].
Before you troubleshoot for this DTC, make sure
you’ve unplugged all aftermarket devices from the
starter cut relay circuit.

A sticking main relay can cause that code, you'll need a scantool to check it out if you can get it to act up easily.

It's usually an external problem, not covered by the extension.

Re: repeated check engine problems and D4 blinking (pang07)
when i got the code at first i removed the external security system completely and after couple of months it is coming back again. so i think all aftermarket devices from the cut relay circuit has been removed unless there is some other devices which i dont know in the relay circuit. thanks for your help
