Default Problems with Acceleration

OK guys, first of all, YES, I did search but didn't find anyone with my same problem...

Well I have a stock automatic '90 Accord LX F22A1, I had to rebuild the engine but everything was left stock, my problem has been for the past month or so. After a while driving my car suddenly stops letting me accelerate past 2500 rpm, if I try to force it by accelerating more, it starts reving from 1200 to 3000 rpms but still doesn't accelerate. If I keep the revs below 1500 rpms everything it perfect, but of course I wont be going too fast...LOL. When it first started if I turned the car off and then back on it would then work perfectly, but now that doesn't work anymore. I thought it could maybe be something with the tranny but it I put the car in neutral or park and accelerate, it wont rev past 1800 rpms, and most of the time it stalls. I also noticed that when it starts doing this, a strong smell of fuel starts coming in to the car. Please if anyone has an idea of what this could be please help.

Oh, I did eliminate the charcoal canister, but I dont think that has anything to do.

Thanks in advance to all.

Well, did you know that the charcoal canister serves to hold the fuel vapors and without it you will smell them?
Does the car crank right now?

i had the same problem with my ef after i put an 0bd1 b16 into it. the motor ran perfect for 2 years in my da and then as soon as i put it into the ef it did the same thing. i would shut the car off and restart it and i would run perfect, till if happened again. i left my charcoal canister in too. i spent 6 months trying to find the problem to no avail. i ended up parting the damn car out cause it finally got to me. i put about $1000 in parts into it with no success. i would really like to know what caused this to happen too!

OK, thanks for the response, the fuel smell started when the car started giving me these problems, and I had removed the charcoal canister a long time before that, but who knows got to check and see...regarding the car, yes, it does crank, it even starts but wont let me accelerate it if I try to accelerate it, it stalls after a whole lot of backfiring that is...any advice?

put the charcoal canister back, and u mite have tranny issues, maybe a fluid change.. but before that u might want to give her a tune up, ignition, fuel, etc., then go to the tranny.

OK, now I'm really ticked-off...I changed my fuel filter, and I swapped my fuel rail and fuel regulator from my '93 EX, and the car started right up, with some backfiring but a lot better.

Now my big concern and question is, that it still revs up and down after a while driving even if I stop and put it in neutral, and I also noticed that if the fuel is is at a 1/4 of a tank or less it does it more...and something VERY strange happened today, when I went to get gas I left the car on since my wife and kids were in it, and noticed that as soon as I loosened the fuel cap, the car automatically shut off, I tried to restart it but it wouldn't start, so I put the cap back on once I finished and the car started perfectly...so my main question is, "Are all these things related to the same thing and if so what could be causing it?"

Thanks in advance for all your help.
