need help with CEL code 70 what do i do to fix this problem
I drive a 97 accord ex 4 cyl, auto with 85k.
my check engine light came on during thanks giving. this code was 70 which is
Automatic Transmission
malfunction with the automatic transmission controls
i took the connectors off the battery and it went off for about a month.
my check engine light came back on today Christmas day. the code is 70 again.
Please tell me how to fix this problem. i don't have much money so i was wondering if it was a do it yourself proceedure.
i took the battery connectors off so it's off temporarily for now
thank you in advance.

Te best thing to do would be to have the code read with a scan tool and get the 'P' code, jumpering the pins for a flash code can be misleading.

Code 70(Transmission) is/was covered under the 150,000 mile warr extension (offerred for 97' models only)under service bulletin 98-013. You'll need to get the freeze data stored for that code to see what speed the vec. was traveling when the fault occurred. If it was over 59mph the trans probably needs replaced. It would be worth checking out with your local dealer.

Re: need help with CEL code 70 what do i do to fix this problem (OldTopTech)
I drive a 97 accord ex 4 cyl, auto with 85k.
I was going 70-75 mph each time code went on.
So do you think I need a new transmission?
How much would a brand new transmission cost?
I’m going to make an appointment with the H dealership tomorrow.
My transmission seems smooth to me. I hope it's minor and that it's covered by a warrantee.
If it’s the Transmission control module that is under the passenger side, I can get to it
My Q is can I just unplug it and plug the new one in or do I have to do something else?
Do you know of anywhere on line that sells Transmission control modules that are cheaper than dealer prices? I can’t find anything online.
Does anyone have the parts list that is covered under the emissions warrantee? I’m going to ask the H tech if he’ll print that list out. I’m pretty sure he won’t but I’ll ask anyways.

Re: need help with CEL code 70 what do i do to fix this problem (businessmanph)
I went to the H dealership today and they flushed my transmission. It cost me $244. They also gave me a free tune up and a free oil change without asking me if I wanted it done. I think they should have asked me first but I can’t really complain because it was free. I really hope this light doesn’t come on again for the same problem.
Thanks
