Default Looking at a 1993 Accord tonight--Any comments or suggestions

Let me first say I am 16..This will be my second car, i currently drive a 1993 dodge caravan, its my dads old car.

The 1993 accord is 4 door has pw, pl and cruise. It is 5speed. Forest Green color.

The AC compressor is burned out, the lady said that honda dealer quoted her $600 for the job.

The front struts, brakes and tires were changed 2 years ago, with the right front axle and distributer cap and battery and entire exhaust system and some other stuff were changed a bit over a year ago.

It has 130,000 miles on it, and they are asking $2900.

Please tell me what to look for, and if this is a good deal at all(i will haggle down the price because of the A/C) I will post pics of the car when I get back from looking at it tonight,.

Any reasons i should avoid this car? THANKS!

test all little buttoms (radio, windows, sunroof, pw locks ect...)
go around all four corner test the shocks and springs
-look under car to see if car is devloping any major rust.
-listen to engine.
-feel and check rear fenders(most hondas rust from that point.
-use the brake... brake sorta hard a few times
-make 2-3 tight turns to see if car needs new axle.
---- many more but just keep these things in mind

i'd get the quote form from Honda for that A/C. A/C work can get freakin expensive....especially if the compressor is shot or if there are some electrical gremlins. A/C is probably the most lied about car problem in the world.....

rule of thumb: buy the used best car you can afford. You will pay for it in the end.

When your ac compressor goes out it is not a 600 dollar job it is more like a 1000 dollar job and that is the low end. I was quoted 1300 for mine. the reason the job is expensive is because your ac is a vacum and when you remove the compressor you are killing the vacum and a bunch of dirt and debris gets into the system. They have to clean the system and do some other stuff. Since it is a 93 you have should convert it over to r-12 . Expect to spend some grip on your ac work.

Umm, Dude, the old freon is R-12. In march 1993 honda switched to R-134A(it was a government mandate) I need to take a closer look and see if it is 12 or 134a.

The only rust on the car is the bottom corners of the trunk, about a 1/2 of it. THere is also a bit by the emblem.

The suspension is perfect, and the right axle was replaced 2 years ago.

I test drove a 1994 sentra XE(1.6L) 5speed last night, and it had way more pep than this accord...that was the downside.

Thanks guys.

BTW,
I will get a quote from a local nissan dealership for the A/C so that i can bargain down the price more.
