Default Just bought an accord.....

Hey whats up...first i wanna say that its cool to see this type of forum....

I purchased a 1995 Accord EX. However I do not know ANYTHING about Accords (or cars for that matter). Would anyone suggest anything to do or have done to the car? I did small things like oil change and tune up.

what would anyone suggest for me to look into to take care of. The car has 111,21X miles on it. Do you think it will last for a while? And what in the hell is the significance of a V-Tec engine?

Thanks in advance for all of the information,

(oh yeah, the cigarette lighter and overhead light inside of the car doesnt work? can anyone give instructions on how to handle this?_

Hey a least you can spell VTEC right, that's better then a lot of people on here. As far as miles go that's just getting started. I have a friend who has a 95 EX with 294K on it and you regularly see people in here with at least that.

Thanks, where can I find the article on the Vtec engine and what it does and does anyone know what I can do about the below situation.

(oh yeah, the cigarette lighter and overhead light inside of the car doesnt work? can anyone give instructions on how to handle this?)

Oh yeah....I have no idea if the timing belt was replaced (being that I bought it at 111k miles) and when should I get all that type of ish changed?

good looking out peoples,

Here's an article I found that might define what VTEC is all about...

i would look into the timing belt, as to save other problems if you throw it while driving. Push on it a bit and see how much movement it has. It should be relatively tight, and also look for dry rot type cracks in the belt

First thing I would do is register at honda.com, it will keep you updated with services and recalls

Here is the link:

https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/...honda

As far as your mileage is concerned, several members have 200+K on their original engines. It is a matter of maintaining it and servicing it as needed. My 90 accord has 181K on her and leaks a little power steering fluid, thats it, no burning oil nothing...the accords are definetly iron horses (if maintained).

The cigarette lighter and the overhead light both run off the same fuse, so most likely the culprit will be a blown fuse. If I remember right, the fuse box for your generation Accord is still under the driver side dash. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

the owners manual should tell you where the fuse box is in your car

Open hood, upper left corner, if not there then open the panel to the left and toward the driver next to your dead pedal. Perhaps a better way of wording it is to look below your hood release tab and to the left.

Way to go man, I got my 94 2.2VTL some 4 months back and still trying to learn much about this great car.

VTEC is pending repair as it currently throws CEL 22 whenever I stepped on it

By the way it still cruises at 170km/h w/o VTEC...

congrats on your purchase. i sell honda's for a living and hear alot of stories from my customers who have had well over 200,000 miles on there honda's. just take care of it and it should last you a long time.

i would give it a good tune up, unless you know the person that had it before took care of it.

Treat the car right, forget about the fact you have Vtec. Dont get excited and race you car like a moron and all should be well.

make sure to keep your accord clean and stuff. we all know honda engines can last forever. your engine is far from being in its middle ages. as for v-tec. great you got the spelling right. vtec stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. (i alwasy wondered why arent the other letters part of it) go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and there is a article about it. its not a big dea. ion the 1/4 mile vtec motors are quicker by small fractions of a second compared to non-vtec motors.
