Intermitent CEL problem
Hey everyone,
I have a 95 Honda Accord EX 2.2L vtech with a CEL problem it acts up when it wants to. While driving the CEL light will come on and you can feel the engine lose some power, pull up to a stop light and the car will die, turn the key off and back on its completely normal again runs great for a couple miles and it happens all over again. I tried pulling the codes by jumping the obd1 port with a paper clip and I get a solid check engine light as soon as I pull it out the light clears??????????? I am stuck and cant seem to find anything related to my issue on this site, some of the things I was reading on other sites were saying it could be a dirty connector somewhere in the electrical system but will be very hard to troubleshoot. Just a little background I have had this problem off and on for the last 6 months and for the last 2 it went away with no problems so I thought i was good but today it came back. Any and all help is much appreciated!!!!

If your engine light is on, go to autozone or advanced auto and have them pull out the codes with a scanner. Then let us know what codes you pull out, that way it will be easier to help you.
this is a longshot... but, i had something similar in my car too. I pinned down the issue being the EGR valve pressure sensor (or something like that). In my engine F22B1, is a cylindrical thing right behind the block, on the top, on the passenger side of the car, right next to the VTEC solenoid. It has a hose coming out of it and plugged to a vacum line coming from the vacum valves on the driver side. I noticed that by unplugging this thing the CEL would stop coming on and the car would not die at the lights. I noticed the IDIOT that owned the car before for some reason plugged the hoses in reverse order and that was causing the valve to go nuts. Just to test it, I'd unplug that... Also, with the car on, and running, you can also check the code for the light by jumping the connector. You dont really need to turn the car off to do it. The dash CEL will blink accordingly, if you can prevent the car from shutting off (by pumping the pedal) you might get lucky and pin the bastard.
Thanks for the reply I will definitely look into the egr sensor this week and let you know the outcome, I tried jumping the obd1 while the check engine light pops on and all it does is hold solid CEL.

Well, my friend, thats odd enough. I looked at the manual and could not find any other thing about it. I'd give it a try with EGR thingie just to see is easy enough to test and it did give me a few headaches. My car was also stalling after stopping at lights, and sometimes even going to 3 cyl and eventually just 2... All because of that ungodly valve.
