Default Ignition Switch Bad!

I have a 99 Accord EX 4 cyl and the ignition switch is getting REALLY BAD, Started a little while ago and would just shut off while driving, now it takes some jiggling to even get it started half the time. I know there was a recall for this (premature wear causing loss of contact at the switch itself), but my honda dealer says it was not a safety recall so I will have to pay! Really....the car just shutting off while driving down the highway or turning through an intersection is not a safety issue?

Am I missing something or did anyone else have trouble getting their dealer to fix it for free?

It has nothing to do with the dealership. We are payed by honda for warranty claims and this isn't covered. Pay to have it done, do it yourself, or push your car around man. I'm a cheap *** myself, so I learned to work on my own ****.

Well, I wouldn't go around saying 12 years is 'premature' wear on an item........

The part is like $50 (new OEM Honda) and is honestly not difficult to replace. Did it on my 5th gen.

I believe you are referencing:

40 of 255: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Bulletin Date: OCT 2003
RECALL CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL SALES, SERVICE AND PARTS MANAGERS REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH MAY WEAR EXCESSIVELY AND PREVENT PROPER INTERLOCK OPERATION, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND REMOV ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10004475 )
That is also not applicable to all of them and Honda will run your VIN number to see if it is applicable. Again though, it's not like the car is brand new at this point - I don't really know if this will apply to you.

It is true I am a cheap ***, I do all my own work so I am just finishing up with a valve job and I have heard before that honda will give you the part free....I intended to install it myself, I think the part is like $70 bucks or something. Thought if I could save that It would be more money than I have.

Thanks for the responses, guess I will just surrender!
