idle problem
ok the thing is wen my car starts cold it idles around 1100 constantly since ive got it and after a bit of warming up it goes down to 8-900 but since yesterday its been idling really low...wen i slow to a stop the needle drops almost past the last tick mark on the tack almost hitting zero...whats going on? any help would be appriciated...thanks
I think i have the same problem, when im stop and i press the gas cause i want to get the car fast, the iddle speed kinda dropped and the car doesnt respond inmediatly, and I know my valves are in not a good spot.
This happened on my Explorer once. It would start, but would not idle. The RPMs would drop, and the engine would sputter and die. It couldn't find an idle.
There is a device called the idle air control valve. I don't know where it is on the Accord (On my Explorer it's a small cylinder on top of the throttle body, which is where it should be on the Honda) but in my case, the plunger got clogged up, and did not function properly. All I had to do was clean it out with some pipe cleaner and Throttle body cleaner. No new parts needed.
Just to let you know, the IAC is a valve that opens and closes to vary air at idle to compensate for accesories that put a load on the motor such as air conditioning. It is controlled by electrical pulses from the PCM. Rarely does it ever go bad, but it does seem to get clogged up fairly quickly.
If that is not the case, check your spark plugs and wires. Make sure the wire insulation is good, and not arcing.

you're right a sure sight of a clogged idle air passage is a drastic drop in idle from a deceleration to a stop a lot of times the motor will even stall. depending on the model of accord it could be equiped with an egr valve that is sticking open. i would clean out those passages before messing with timing. if it has been running good and has gradually gotten worse it is most likely idle air related. and unles you are getting ready to toss atiming belt or you have a gremlin under your hood messing with stuff there should be little adjustment required. if its been a while give it a good tune up oil change and check yourbases after cleaning the iac. regular amintenance goes a long way.
