An idea i had.. a read and reply post
ok i have this idea just wanted to get other opnions and maybe some pointers. i live in kansas and its about to go into winter around here and really cold nasty ect.. i was thinking of parking my accord for the winter as i have access to another car to drive.
and a garage to put the accord into "!" thus sparing the car from the salt ect. and giving me time to take apart and fix or beef up things i normally wouldnt have time to do with school and work and using it as a daily driver. what would i need to do in the along this 4-5 month period to keep it ok? how often should it be started? i read that you should disconnect the battery or it will lose its charge? thnx for any and all replies.

3 or 4 months? Eh just warm it up on the nicer days and drive it around the block a bit every few weeks to keep the mechanicals lubed and tires from deforming. Don't just start it up and let it sit there. You probably won't even need to disconnect the battery unless you find it going dead after a few weeks.
I used to live in Wisconsin, so I fell your pain. Here is what I did with my 1964 Chevrolet Impala.
Put the car on jackstands. This prevents the tires from getting flat spots. Change the oil before you put it into storage. Get some fuel additive that stabilizes your gas so it will not gum up. Disconnect the battery. Give it a through wash. Inside and out. You will not want anything on the paint that could contaminate it or anything in the interior that could start to stink. Air freshener. That air can get very stale in their. Last, I would get a car cover. This just helps keep it a little cleaner and keeps the dust off.

Yeah i think i will do that i dont wanna drive it during winter. itll give me more time to read up and take stuff apart too lol.
leaving it up on jackstands wouldnt harm the suspension at all would it? shocks spring i wll be changing it over from stock to
coilovers and new struts the ones on there now are pretty shot anyways

yeah good ideas, its also very smart to change the shocks and springs at the same time. Im just glad I dont have to be without my car for a couple months, it might get down to freezing and we might get a half inch of snow.
