Default How long can you let your car sit?

I rarely drive my 90 Accord Dx; maybe 200 miles a year. With a brand new battery, how long could I let if sit before my battery wears down too low to start? Also, how far/fast/long do I need to drive to keep it charged?

For now I keep the battery on a trickle charger in the garage. I'm asking because if I kept it in the car, I might actually drive more often. Thanks!!!

Depends on the condition of the battery and what kind of electrical drain is on the battery. It would be best to leave the battery on a trickle charger if you do not plan on driving it often.

A 15minute drive once a week should keep the battery charged up. This is also good at keeping any seals lubricated in the engine and transmission, as well as burning off any moisture that builds up inside the engine and engine oil. Gas also will not last indefinitely. Use some form of dry gas or fuel storage additive in the fuel tank.

If you start it every few days and let it run till it gets hot the battery should last awhile! A yr plus. Which isnt to bad for storage. maybe 2-3 yrs.

I don't play around with my battery. Any car I've ever had that I didn't drive daily would always have some kind of battery issue in no timewhen sitting.

I just use my 90 accord here and there so I undo the negative when not in use, since then I don't have any issues.

I also keep one of those things that collects moisture inside the cabin, keeps it dry and smelling good. I've always been amazed how messed up cars can get when they sit.

depends where, like outside in the elements it can get pretty fudged up.

but if in a garage, or better yet, a heated garage you could let it sit for a long time and not worry (of course letting it run every so often is important still).

best to take the battery out of the car (but never put it on the ground, or in cold--will kill battery much faster.) best to bring it in and keep it charged.

my lude before I bought it did a ton of sitting, maybe ~2 years according to previous owner. under my ownership ive let it sit in my garage for now 6 months during the winter months. Only thing that is worrying me are the fluids which i'll be changing when it warms up, the spots of rust forming on the brake rotors, my tires forming flat spots and of course the battery...which I need to boost as I sort of let it sit for more than 2-3 weeks without letting it run.
