How do I know which audio head unit will fit my 1999 Accord?
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500CDA1...?tp=5684&avf=Y
That's the head unit I had in mind. Crutchfield says it fits, but when I checked at BestBuy, the site said it didn't fit.
Can anyone verify that it would fit or how can I check for myself? How accurate is Crutchfield at this sort of thing? I know this is their thing, but I need to hear a second opinion.
The chassis code is IEJ, which is the same as CDA-9886 which Best Buy said would fit my car. What's the chassis code about?
Also, I just checked on crutchfield and the site is telling me that the Alpine R 6 1/2" speakers I bought for them do not fit! What the hell? I could've sworn I cchecked before I bought them and it said yes. BestBuy says yes, though!? WTF!? Has anyone installed these speakers on their 6 gen accord? Damn, why do they have to make this **** so hard?!

You can fit a lot deeper speakers in the door than what any "official" guide says. You will just need to make a spacer out of MDF. So a lot of stuff that "doesn't fit" will fit just fine with a little extra work. The issue you have to worry about is the window. just roll it down before you take the door panel off and make sure you clear the glass. I'm 99% sure I've got a 3/4 in spacer in my doors, and made no mods to the door panel.
I would trust Crutchfield over BB any day.

MDF is a fiberboard that is used for all sorts of car audio stuff like sub boxes. Pretty strong and easy to work with. The spacer spaces the speaker away from the backing on the inside of where you are mounting the speaker. It fits in between the speaker and the outter mount point. Some speakers come with a spacer/bracket (usually made out of plastic) in case you need spacing or you need a better set of mounting holes for the screws. I have 6 1/2 2-way Polks in the doors on my 98 and definitely am glad they came with the spacer/bracket because I needed the extra clearance AND different mounting points. The tweeters in the middle of the speakers do touch the outter speaker cover a bit, but they don't rattle and I've had zero problems.

I know the speakers came with two pairs of different sized spacers. I don't know if that's what I'm looking for in fixing the problem. I don't think so because if the spacers included in the box were ideal for my car then why would crutchfield say they don't fit?

The CDA-105 is a slightly stripped down CDA-9886, the exterior dimensions will be the same but all you need to worry about is whether or not it's 1-DIN, and it is. It will fit. At Crutchfield, compare those two models and you'll see what I mean about them being very similar though I personally like the display on the CDA-105 better - one line of large text rather than two lines of smaller text with that dorky USB or iPod symbol (on the CDA-9886).
When you get it installed, please post a picture of it installed - I was considering the CDA-9886 for my '99 since I have a trunk mounted CD changer (Alpine) that I'd kind of like to keep using since I already have it.
Also, for the '99 LX, do you need a kit or will it fit in the slot? I have a 1-din radio already with a pocket underneath. The trim around the factory radio looks like it will fit around an aftermarket head unit without a kit, but I just wanted to make sure.

That head unit will fit your 90 accord for sure, no problem. Not many that won't fit. Your car takes a double din.
