I have a 1997 Accord LX with 160,000k. In the last two weeks the engine just died three different times and I was able to start the car right up. I was wondering if it could be signs of a bad fuel pump or pump relay. I guess the problem is (if this is one) the car starts up right after it kills not giving me a chance to diagnose the problem.

Bingo, the hardest part of the diagnose is "catching it in the act".
And if the problem only happens intermittantly, you can drive around for a week with a fuel pressure gauge duct taped to the windshield and a test light hooked to the Dist. Black/yellow wire, and still not get any better info.
Your car is old enough and has enough miles to have all kinds of little problems; ignition switch, ignitor, fuel pump......
the main relay in your car will <U>usually</U> cause problems at initial start up.
Best to keep test light and maybe a 12mm socket in the car. That way if the engine does fail to start at some point you can check for power to the dist. or crack open the fuel rail line to see if there is fuel pressure.

 

I just changed the fuel pump and the car keeps stalling out. I was sure it was the fuel pump. Hate to say it,but I had the same problen on my Surburban.
