Hello y'all,

So today my car started overheating after going up a hill on my daily commute. It did this a few weeks ago but not as bad. Usually the temp stays below halfway but the first time it went to halfway with the A/C on. Turned it off and it was fine. Then my A/C went out last week and found it may be an electrical issue cause the fan doesn't kick in nor does the A/C clutch. That I can live with. Today I went up the hill and the temp went halfway but started to go higher until I came to a red light, then it went down. Acceleration it went back to halfway and when I was parking it, (stop, reverse, go) the temp went up again. The engine fan was running and my resevoir level was full. Checked it out before I drove home and looked in the radiator. Saw there was some gunk on the coils so I'm going to do a radiator flush. Any insight to what it might actually be, such as water pump, thermostat or just time for a new radiator?

youre saying there was gunk inside the radiator ?

have you checked the thermostat?, you can do so by putting it in a pan of water and boil it and if it opens up you know the thermostat is fine. also did you see any water or oil coming from where the water pump is?

Update: So I put in a thermostat and flushed the system. Found the thermostat was cut to allow a free flow but the coolant was just water. I put in a fail safe thermostat, flushed the coolant and burped the system. Now its overheating even worse. Gonna get a new radiator cap and check the weep hole tomorrow and see if that leads to pressure or water pump.

I would suggest purchasing a proper Honda Thermo/Gasket before anything else.
I am big on not going to the dealer for parts, but the Thermostat/Gasket from Honda is ****. Everything else I question, most are pure *****. With the car on level ground, crack the bleeder and verify no air no the system.

Ok so I found out the ECT sensor was faulty. Was throwing a code for it even after I unplugged the battery. Replaced it, turned everything on and no code so the test of fate will be when I drive to work.

And it's still freaking overheating!

Did you verify your normal fan is working?
Car should warm up while idling and the fan should kick on.

Did you bleed air out of the system from the bleeder on the thermostat housing?

Noticed today that the radiator fan hasn't been kicking on as normal. It kicked in when it was way high in the red. The condenser fan stopped kicking in when the a/c when out and found its not getting power. Hope that same gremlin aint acting up with the radiator fan. And yes, it has been bleed.

I'm getting people saying it might be the water pump, others saying it's the head gasket but now I have that fan not kicking in. I really don't know where to start, especially with how much work a water pump is, then I might as well put in a head gasket while I'm there. Then if it's the electric circuit to the fan, then I'll just be chasing the wire till I find it. I'm seriously considering junking this thing and picking up an 02 Si I found.

I would help but it looks like you're more interested in venting than actually listening to anyone here.

If the fans are not functioning correctly the car will overheat.

If the system was not bled at the thermostat housing when refilling the coolant, you will get false temp readings, overheating and erratic running.
Did you ever air bleed the system via the bleed valve at the thermostat housing?
