Default engine differences.

does anyone know the mechanical differences between the f22b1 and f22b2 engine? aside from the fact one is vtec and the other is not. im curious to know if there is a way to convert between them without a engine swap.

This question comes up 2 or 3 times a week. I'm sure it was asked just a few threads below. Anyways I'm not sure which engines the F22B1 and B2 are, but a SOHC non-VTEC to SOHC VTEC conversion is not worth it because the large amount of money you pay isn't worth the diminutive power gain (5 HP from a 140 HP F22 or 20 HP from 125 HP F22). You are going to pay a good bit of money because besides the VTEC head, you'll need a VTEC ECU, VTEC wiring harness, and add VTEC oil lines. Way too much work for 5~20 horsies.

4doorH22 is right. The amount of money you will spend doing this could be spent on a H22 swap. If you have an F22B2 and want the power of a stock F22B1, get a header. (I have a DC Sports), or you could probably find a stock Ex (F22B1) header and put it on as well. We are only talking about 10 horsepower. F22B1=145 and F22B2=135. Most of the power difference comes from the header and the exhasut manifold. Also, it must be noted that VTEC doesn't really do much at all for the SOHC Honda engines. This principle applies to the tiny D16Z6 in a Civic Ex to the F22B1 in the Accord Ex. You can't really feel VTEC at all in these motors. VTEC is only worth it in the twin cam Honda motors.

it really depends on who you get the motor from, what is included in the motor transaction, and who installs your motor...
