Default Electricity problems

I have a 93 accord
I pulled the motor, swapped in a new clutch, and replaced the motor. I let the battery die during the motor pull, because I don't like working in silence (lleft the radio on for a couple hours). After re-install, I started th car, it ran fine, until like half a mile down the road - then the car sputters under anything other than like 10% throttle. Idled my way home, turned the car off.

Next day, I go to start it, battery's dead. Jumped it, car ran fine while the jumper cables are still hooked up. Again ran fine at idle but again would sputter like all hell under throttle. I figured the alternator was struggling because the battery was so dead, so I pulled the battery out of my civic, threw it in there, car started and ran fine. After 20 mins or so of driving, same symptoms, so now I figure the alternator is gone too. Swapped in a new alternator, kept the civic's battery in, and the little battery symbol on my dash has been on ever since.

Car was doing good, I was ignoring the little battery light. After a bit, radio started to cut out, so I figure it's trying to die again. If I start the car, and un-hook the negative battery cable from the post, the car dies. I thought that if the car was running and the alternator was good, if you un-hook the negative battery cable the car should run fine, as it has that like 6 gauge ground running the the fender wall to ground everything out.

Any thoughts? And yes, the alternator is hooked up correctly, tranny is gorunded, as is the valve cover and that mount on the driver's side...am I missing something?

As with all posts of this nature, I'll recommend:
Recharge the battery
With a volt meter, check the system voltage with the engine running. you had better see voltages between
13.8 and 14.4 volts.
Anything else indicates a bad alternator.

Once you get either a thumbs up or a thumbs down on the alternator issue; have the battery load tested. Many Maintaince Free batteries don't tolerate deep discharges very well. Have it checked.
