Hey, i am helping a friend with his 92 accord. The distributor was leaking oil bad from the seal and cap so we replaced it with a unit we got "new" on e-bay. It was fully assembled so i assumed it had an igniter in it. It started up and ran just fine after we put it in. Now when it warms up it throws the code 15, ignition output signal. So i am starting to think the igniter in the new dist is junk, the car runs just fine so this is wierd. I am going to try to put the old igniter back in tonight, does this sound like it may be the cause?

 

No idea on how to fix your problem, but next time just buy it from Honda. About $200 got me a new one and it hasn't acted up yet. I would just stay off ebay when looking for engine components.

 

why not contact the seller and inform them of the issue and have them send the part or a new dist assy ?

 

Yeah i can maybe contact them, i was under the impression that it was a honda unit. I tried swaping the igniter from the old unit to the new one and no luck. I am wondering if it was the distributor now.

 

Reset the ECU to make sure the ECU is not storing code 15 in memory..

 

DTC 15 is a coil fault

200 for a new HONDA dist? wow. they are like 450 or more from honda. i used one from ebay too and it works great. maybe i got lucky...

would buy HONDA but damn they were crazy $$$

 

Yeah, my dizzy was brand new in box for $200 at a local honda dealer. I laughed when I saw some on Ebay for $150. I would rather spend the 50 bucks and have a guaranteed one.

 

download a service manual and follow the troubleshooting tree. Get your DVOM out, and test the wiring and the coil, and go from there.
