Re: Don't change oil (CD7power)
OMG that's horrible. Although I haven't changed the oil in the new civic for 12,000 so far, got another 13,000 to go before it's changed. But the filter will be changed every 7,500. Synthetics are great.
Just curious what made the guy bring the car in the shop? could it have been a strange noise from the engine? Or did it finally stop running?

Re: Don't change oil (hondadude)
I wonder what his compression numbers where .
Well technically the oil buildup around the rockers and in/around the head acts as a protectant against wear.

I think the owner lied about changing the oil at 7000 mile intervals. The owner's manual says oil changes at 7500 miles for normal driving and 3500 for severe service. If they drove under "normal" conditions, the 7000 mile oil changes would be OK. Even under severe conditions and changing the oil at 7000 miles, the motor wouldn't look like this. The picture reminds me of my brother's car; he changed the oil maybe once or twice in 90,000 miles, he just added a quart when it was low. The valve train looked like it was carved out of sh*t. The pushrods were clogged with scungy hard, burned up oil, so no oil was making it to the valve train. It was a disaster.

Was that a lease by any chance? (the original picture)

I change my Volvo's oil with Mobil 1 every 4,000 to 5,000 miles or so (of course, I only drive it about 8,000 or 9,000 miles per year, so I change it myself every 6 or 7 months). Costs ~ $22 for 5 quarts of Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart plus ~ $5 for a new filter (Mann) / drain plug washer. In my Accord I change it about every 4,000 miles with Castrol GTX and Honda filter.

Re: Don't change oil (Heat)
Yes I am, it's Amsoil and it's the extended life oil. Only thing to change is the filter. They've run the tests and it holds up it's viscosity and doesn't break down so therefore I am following their schedule. And the mileage willl come before the time as I've had the car since November 11,2004 and it's got 18,000 miles on it now.

Re: (sj993)
OGM that is just sad.
How could anyone ignore their car like that. I have seen that type of junk all over the outside of cars, but I have to say this is the first time I have seen it loaded up inside of it like that.
Holly shoot that owner
take their DL away
Jail them
No one should ever let their car get that bad
Oh and AmsOil does rule, I am a dealer of AmsOil myself and I swear by the stuff. Its a wonderful oil with several perks to it. Wont go into it as all can read up on it themselves, but it has showed its weight in gold to me many of times from street to track.
BTW take that owner of that motor and put them out to pasture
Isn't this how it should look?
BTW this is the ignored motor I pulled from it and installed an F22A6
It had some issues mostly with the timing belt and missing bolts in there too. God got to love how the repair shops leave things out and never think it will do damage. Good thing I do mostly all my own work.
