Decrease in gas mileage because of missing intake piece?
On my 96 LX, I noticed that I had a very bad decrease in gas mileage from one tank directly after another. I had wondered what I had done recently to make this occur, and I remembered that I had left my end piece of my OEM Intake in my garage. This is the piece that is adjacent to the battery, and the mouth of the intake faces the battery.
What I am wondering is... would leaving this piece out cause my ~2mpg loss from tank to tank? I just put it back in today after having one tank of gas that was 27.4mpg and my current tank of gas is looking the same way.
Typically, I get anywhere from 29.5mpg or better.

I doubt that would cause the decrease. BTW, I have noticed an almost consistent pattern to my fill-ups, though. It seems every other one, the mileage is higher. Sometimes almost 2mpg, but usually only 1.something . A cold spell can drop the mileage also.
Thanks for the reply. Cold weather? That's probably the only other reason I could think of that is different between then and now. I always thought cold air was an improvement over warm air though, but I guess general cold weather could make the mileage worse.
