Crankshaft seal - what a pain! I cant get this out

Why is it so hard to pick these out? Is there a tool I am missing?

I cant get this one out

Ideas?

see your thread on the camshaft seal, I just posted how I removed both the camshaft and crankshaft seals on my Civic during my recent timing belt change.

yep, I remember talking to you about it, thanks again

You went between the shaft and seal though right? where the rubber flap is sealing against the shaft? Atleast thats the way it looks in the picture. I went right through the center of the face on the seal by poking the scratch awl through it.
