Default computer problems?

alright, this is happening to my grilfriends car and i am clueless, im thinking faulty sensor, relay, or computer problem as a whole. any insight as to fix this would be greatly appreciated. 1994 Honda Accord EX automatic - stock. heres the story...

yesterday afternoon
put the car in reverse and backed up then put the car into drive and it kept going in reverse even thought the shifter said it was in drive. the brakes got really hard to push while stuck in reverse. she pulled the e-brake then turned the ignition off, put the car in park and restarted the car. the car wouldnt start for like 3 or 4 times even with giving it gas and finally started.

yesterday night
pulling into the driveway the car cut off

today
drove around for awhile then the needles on the tach and speedo started freaking out and then the car turned off while turning and the steering locked. stuck in the middle of the street, it wouldnt cut back on and she had to stick her key in the shift lock release keyhole in order to get it in neutral and push the car home.

...again, let me know what u think may be the cause of the sparatic malfunctions, and comments are greatly appreciated. -zach

two things come to mind althought i could be wrong..

Check your alternator and battery, this may be why its just turning off. Did the lights or anything else dim or go wacky before the car turned off?

When you said it died in the middle of the street, did all the lights in the gauge cluster pop on and make a noise right before it shut down? it sounds like something similar that happened to me when my distributor went, which is a common accord problem, but i dont know if it hit the 5th gen (yours94-97) as much as mine(4th gen 90-93)

I come up with 3 posibilities, distributor, ingniter, ignition switch, and make that four, shift position switch. I would check the ingition switch first, then distributor, then igniter, and last the shift position switch. Did the "Check Engine Light", or the "D4 light" (on the dash), stay lit or start flashing?

just to update, the car is now running, it seems the igniton was the problem, there were certain positions the key was engaging and then when it moved the car would cut off or not start, i replaced it and its all good, thanks for the help
