Did you have to disconnect the coolant lines? If you disconnected them did you make sure to bleed the cooling system? If you didn't have to disconnect them or you already bled the system, try reseting the ECU and see what that does for you.

Hopefully someone here can help.

Just did the egr port cleaning on my gf's ' 2000 accord 4cyl(it ran fine but threw a cel for it)

so i cleaned it and while everythign was apart i also cleaned the intake manifold, throttle body, and the idle control valve.

put it together with all new gaskets and now the idle surges(1000-2200), i quadruple checked that i had everything hooked back up right and am confident it all is including vacuum lines.

i tried bleeding the cooling system like 3 times from the bleeder on the water neck right below the tb and the hose that runs to the tb(the one conecction on this hose is like the highest point of the cooling system)

also sprayed brake clean everywhere i worked thinking maybe there was a leak somewhere

am i mssing something? or should i try checking the idle control valve again? try bleeding the cooling system again?

When I replaced my injector o ring yesterday. I unplug EGR valve hose and forgot to put it back in when I was done. I started it up, it did exactly like you described. I was about pulling my hair out when I found I left the hose unplugged. Plugged in back up and started again.....VAOLO....

In a '99 Accord EX sedan with 130,000 miles on it would it be a good idea to clean out the EGR valve to as preventive service?

this doesn't have a hose on the egr valve, it bolts to the intake manifold and has a 3 04 wire plug i belive

hello people!!! im new to this forum, so let me get to the concern im having with my 93 accord....ever since i cleaned my throttle body the idle has never set to normal..always fluctuating from 1200rpm to 2000rpms. once i put in gear it drops to about 1100rpms. but i read this thread o serving the fast idle valve and idle air control valve...so i performed these steps but, it still wont idle correclty..i bleed the system thinking it just might have an air pocket...im stuck here, what must i do next???? thanks people.....

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!

there was air still in the coolant system

i had to get a special adapter for the radiator cap that lets you run the car with a funnel on it so you can bleed the coolant system without it overflowing and there was an air pocket

Wonderful pics of gunked up stuff GhostAccord,

Heres my question: What makes the intake runners/throttle body/FICV/IACV so freaking gunky in the first place?

Obviously some tiny dirt may get be the filter, but it seems that there wouldn't be any "gunk" build up if oil vapor wasn't being piped in through the breather system to get into both valves, all over your throttle plate, and all over the inside of your intake plenum and runners...

If its not so much gunk as carbon, is the carbon from the EGR system making its way up and throughout the intake system, causing our idles to hunt and our engines to bog??????

I know its for the environment, it just seems like a stupid design. That might be why they changed the EGR system so it doesn't involve the intake system at all...

In the intakes that I have cleaned 95% of the gunk comes from the PCV system Not the EGR. If you take apart a two piece intake manifold (H22/F22) you will plainly see the cause of the contamination. It stems from the PCV intake tube. Oil, oil vapor and any other byproducts of a hot crank case are passed through it. You name it, if it's in your fuel or your oil it will come out of your crank case through the PCV and into your intake manifold. The EGR system is too far down the runners to get back up into the plenum. That and the EGR system is only in operation during high flow conditions.

Thats what I figured... When you clean out the EGR system it makes you wonder though. Im sure some of the exhaust makes its way up to the plenum since only one runner is pulling air at a time, perhaps in that fraction of a second it happens.

As far as the PCV, I love it when the EPA dictates pollution control that eventually makes an engine run worse, likely producing more pollution over the life of the vehicle than to begin with.

THROTTLE CABLE IS GOOD, ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE ADJUSTMENT SCREW ON THE THROTTLE BODY?

Yes, granted it's for minor changes but it may help somewhat.
