Check engine light
I have a 1999 Accord ex. I have about 165k miles on it. I recelnlty ( for the first time ) changed the oil myself instead of going to a mechanic. Well of course that eliminated my maintenance light, but right after that my check engine light came on. I checked and that codes that it supplied were p0700 and p1705. What's the deal?
Also, my low fuel light does not come on anymore. I checked the fuse and it was fine.
Help!!!!

have you spilled any drinks in the center console lately?
P1705= A/T gear position switch circuit shorted
the P0700 is a generic code meaning the TCU has requested the MIL/CEL General Trans Control problem

Re: Check engine light (spiderman_rej)
you changing your oil for the first time had nothing to do with the CEL or any other codes. It is just coincidental...keep changing your own oil. Read up here for advise.
Several caution though when changing your oil. Always make sure the rubber on the oil filter comes off when removing the old filter. Mine stayed on once, I almost destroyed my engine. Always fill car with oil properly before starting. Fill when car is level so you get proper reading..dont overfill. Go slow while approaching the top...better below top fill mark than too much. Start and run it for awhile to make sure nothing is leaking.
While you are down there, look around for anything loose, oil markings, check the cv boots...get used to how things look under there.
Good luck..and DONT DUMP OIL into the ground...dispose oil and filter properly...OPPS, change your air filter every other oil change or two. I stamp it to the ground on occasion to get the crap out if I am too cheap to buy one.
