In a Junkyard near you.
Get an infra red heat gun and take temprature readings on the converter (with the car running and the cooling fans have cycled atleast 2 times) The outlet temprature should be 100 degrees cooler than the inlet temprature. If it's less than 100 degrees difference then the converter is bad.

Re: check engine light (pjz99accord)
how did you get that code? if you have a scanner or know somebody that does you're better off checking the readings of the 02 sensors so you can be sure of the problem...checking the temp of the catalytic converete works most of the time but for something this expensive I would rather be 100% sure than broke trying to chase down these kinds of problems
btw MooGoCow3, are you sure the info about the temperature difference you are giving is correct?

I had it backwards sorry.
Honda Service News October 1998
"Measure the inlet and outlet external temperatures of
the catalytic converter with a thermometer capable
of reading up to 500°F.
*If the outlet temperature is more than 100°F hotter
than the inlet temperature, the converter is OK;
clear the DTC, and return the vehicle to the
customer.
* If the outlet temperature is less than 100°F hotter
than the inlet temperature, replace the converter."

OEM will be really expensive...like i would guess 1000$, u can get aftermarket ones for cheaper, direct bolt on maybe a few hundred or I know that muffler shops do them and they can weld one onto the existing flanges of your old catalytic converter for not too much

So far I didn't notice any issue with it, no engine lite or fuel too rich or anything - also I smel check whats coming out from my muffler, smel like TomyHilFiger

They dont have an extended warranty on the cats. The regular is 8 years or 80000 miles.
