Central Locking Problem
Hi peeps,
I have a 1999 Accord Coupe 2.0ies (UK model).
The drivers side central locking mechanism doesn't seem to work.
1. The key opens and closes the door, and using the central locking it opens and closes the passenger side door.
2. When I activate or deactivate the central locking, I can hear a noise in the door if I put my ear up close.
3. Very rarely, the central locking closes the door, but only rarely, we're talking 1 in a 100 presses.
Do I need a new actuator? I don't fancy spending lots of money at the stealership and the look most mechanics local to me in Birmingham give when they see the car is one where they think they can rip me off.
I'm sure I can change whatever I need myself, but would like to save on cost as much as possible but get the job done right.
Thanks
d

if all the other doors unlock with the master switch, it's probably your actuator. you can unplug it and see if you are getting power when you push the switch. if so, replace the actuator, assuming you don't have any mechanical problems inside the door, like a loose rod or a bad latch.
Thank you for your help Graham.
I'm going to see if I can get an actuator and change the thing myself.
Upon visual inspection, the rods seemed fine. Without sounding like a total idiot - what would you mean by the latch? - would this bit be the actual mechanical 'lock' mechanism which keeps the door closed?
Thanks

yes, the latch is the mechanism that holds the door closed against the striker bar that is bolted to the door post. It's most likely the actuator on that year accord. just test the wire leads with a volt meter to make sure the actuator is getting a full 12-14 volts with the car off. if not, there is an issue in the control circuitry.
