Default CEL: Check EGR

I've got a CEL on and after checking the code, it is regarding the EGR valve. How major of a problem is this? I havent had much chance to look into it. And the car has been running no different than before. Gas mileage is the same as well. Thanks in advance for any advice.

the egr valve is only an issue in states where emmissions are an issue. in south carolina you dont have to worry about it. in california, you have major worries but only when you have to smog your car. it basically reduces oxides of nitogen emissions (NOx) by recirculating exhaust gas through the egr valve and the intake manifold into the combustion chambers. you eg valve is probably stuck and your egr valve lift sensor is detecting that the egr valve is not lifting enough and sending you the CEL code

Thanks, that helps put my mind a bit more at ease. So I don't have much to be concerned with, correct? It's nothing that will be detrimental to the engine over time, right?

no it wont hurt your engine. if it wasnt for emission laws and the EPA clean air act and other environment policies your car wouldnt even have an egr valv or egr system

oooorrrr ur ports are clogged and the map isnt reading a change in vacume when the egr is commanded open. honda has tsb's on this on alot of thier cars. unfortuatly u have to take apart the intake and manually clean the ports to fix it. while the car is running take the egr off and if it doesnt completly die it prob inst open enough. oh and dont let the exhaust comming out the egr scare u. it will be loud
