Default Can someone help with my Accord? Getting very low mileage

HONDA ACCORD 2001 VP

I've recently bought a 2001 Honda Accord VP with 69K miles only. It is an auto transmission and has a 4cyl engine. It is giving extremely low mileage - around 14-18 MPG in city, mixed is around 22MPG and highway only is around 28MPG. Once with a tank filled I got around 320 miles, half of which was on highways.

I've checked tire pressure, but it is ok. I notice that there is a sound in the rear right side, a low pitch sound, which grows with speed. Around 60MPH the sound is very noticable from the back seats. It seems not to be a metallic grinding noise that can occur from bad wheel bearings.

I'm a student and the gas cost is a big burden from a car that should have given me great mileage! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go buy a can of seafoam and put 1/3 of the bottle in it...or you can buy some lucas injector cleaner and put that in it...also you might want to replace the fuel filter if it hasnt been replaced ina while that could help also

I believe(correct me) there is no fuel filter.
Have you replace your air filter lately?
Take out some junk that weights down your car.
I'm pretty sure the noise from the rear is the tire telling you that you need to replace it soon. My tires on my 96 Accord gets louder as speed increases because my tire is almost bald. (unless is some other sound)

I agree with the Seafoam and fuel injector cleaner.

o2 sensors. K&N air filter and deffinatly get your wheel bearing fixed asap, its very dangerous to drive on a blown WB.

You may be right I dont know...I was going off my 94 accord I just figured it would have one also...and yes you may want to replace the air filter also if it hasnt been changed..little things like that will improve gas mileage a little!

is your torque converter locking up?

you got a bad bearing in the back on one of the wheels.

time for Fuel Injector service, new plugs, air filter, and emissions test so you can determine if your car is running rich.....
