Button that does nothing?
Hey all,
I've got a 1997 Accord EX auto, and there's a button next to the steering wheel, on the left side, underneath a pocket built into the dash panel (below the driver's side vent closest to the window) that I am at a loss for. I push it with the car on, and the car off, and it does nothing.
Same when the stereo is on, car is in park, etc etc. I cannot for the life of me figure out what it does or is supposed to do. I'm the second owner after an old lady in chicago who put 80 grand on it driving to her kids places, so it's not an aftermarket secret panel button.
Definitely not an alarm or fancy light button cuz again, it was an old lady car, completely stock. I would really rather not dismantle that part of my car right now and I just wondered if anyone else had a similar unknown mystery button.
Thanks dudes!

Look under the driver seat. If there is a either an alarm brain or a harness reflecting an alarm brain was there then the little button to the left of the steering wheel is for reseting the "dealer installed honda alarm system"

Or you could save yourself and us a lot of trouble and stop assuming old ladies don't add aftermarket parts on their cars, My mother, also a grandmother, installed quite a few aftermarket electronics on her brand new cars. If you could post a pic to show the OEM switch you are referring to it would help us to help you.

From my experience that looks like a valet button for an aftermarket alarm system. Typically one procedure would be turn the key to the on position and push that button then key off. This will put the system into a valet mode and disable it or turn it back on. Might want to dig around under the dash or seats to see if you can find a brain with a brand name on it. Then look up a manual for it to see the correct procedure for the button.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Its the button for resetting a dealer installed "Honda Optional Alarm system." OP already confirmed this in the previous post. I have this button in the same location on a stock 1995 Accord CE1 and its actually operational. IE it disables the alarm with the key in the ignition and you press it.
