bugging the hell out of me!!!!!
my mom has a 96 accord lx with exaust problems, im not even sure what it is. at first i thought it was that stupid *** 4 inch exaust tip that was loud as hell. the car is completely stock and the guy we bought it from sold it to us with the exaust tip already in place. i don't know why you would want to sound loud when you got nothing under the hood. but anyways around 1800 rpm something in the back rattles. we thought it was the shitty exaust which annoyed the hell out of me, especially riding in the back...so we put on the stock exaust and its still making noise. it sounds like something rattles always around 1800 rpm, below that or above that the car is fine. what the hell could that be? just for future reference, is there a way i can have a big exaust pipe, something like 3.5 inches without having so much noise come out of it, cause if you have been in the back seats of cars with loud exausts you know how annoying they get after a while.
rattle is most likely the cat shield. it can be fixed with a metal band. Most Honda dealers will do this for free if you ask them. You have a break or hole in the exhaust somewhere. If all of the pipes look ok, check and make sure everything is nice and tight.
we took it to a mechanic when we changed the exaust tip, he took out the tip along with the box thing, he put the original accord one on and then lifted the car to check out the pipes, he said everything was fine. so i don't know what it could be?
well there is only one reason your exhaust will be loud, it is not going through the muffler like it should, the muffler has a hole in it, or the innards are missing...
If it's a stock exhaust, it should look like this one. My guess is a hole in the pipe leading to the muffler. #2 in the diagram (all one part) Check for holes and loose shields. The hole would probably be where the hanger is. If the exhaust is 3.5", it's not stock. Compare it to the illustration. I bought a cheap muffler one time, and it sounded like my hole car was going to vibrate apart. Get it stock.IMO

it could be the 2000 rpm rattle most accords have ,,,,lets see i think that p adams told me that i cant remember,, bump for p's help
i think you guys are confused, or maybe i wasn't clear. the accord had a 3.5 inch exaust, now it has the regular stock one, you know..the really small one. and it's still making noise. i checked for holes, didn't find anything, stupid *** rattle.
