Have you checked your brake fluid? And that noise could it be your brakes themselves or is it coming out of the engine compartment?

What you are probably hearing is the ABS pump running.....a person would need to LIFT THE HOOD to find out for sure.
Sheesh.....inside the car go to the drivers side kick panel and there will be a lever with a picture of a hood on it....pull that lever till you hear the hood open....then you will need to walk around to the front of the car, find the saftey latch under the front of the car, when it is released you can lift the hood. Secure the hood open with the prop rod.
Look on the passenger side in front of the wheel well, to find the ABS unit, check to see if there is bake fluid in the reservoir. Check for leakage, brake fluid will eat paint. Those units have a service bulletin, that calls for the allen head plugs in the body to be retightened to a higher torque.

YES there is!! your reliefe valve in your abs unit maybe bad and not letting the system build up pressure like it's suppose to. that noise you hear is the abs motor pumping fluid! normally you hear it cut on and then stop, or if you have to stomp on your brakes to keep from whipeing out. but if the check valves and reliefe valves aren't working properly your abs may not work at all. you can rebuild it or buy a used, remanufactured, or new abs unit. very pricey $$$ job if taken to a shop!! if you want a used part I maybe able to find you one, at a decent price let me know your year and trim model, lx,ex etc.

I read the service manual and it says that the abs might just have air in it and that bleeding it will fix the problem. It is just one of the senario btw.
If the relief valve is bad, can't I just replace that instead of the whole unit?

not exactly sure, i read more on it and asked a my boss he owns a honda specific shop that i work at. you could have air in the line or the pressure switch could be bad. you said you have a service manual just wondering which one you have?
there like 4 pages of symtoms to systems diagnostic chart. If you have a volt meter you can check the wiring to find any shorts or opens in the wiring, but you have to know what to look for, I have a factory manual from honda motor company CO Ltd service publication office. I can explain what to do if you need it.
