? about rivets holding the vin number on.
Ok, basically what i'm curious about is on a 93 Honda Accord SE should the vin number on the dash be held on with the star shaped rivets like on the newer cars? The reason I ask is we are looking at a 93 accord with the tan leather interior. It seems like it would be perfect for what we want. I noticed the dash was black and didn't match the tan interior. Is it safe to say it didn't come like this from the factory or was that how it came? When looking closer I noticed the VIN number seems to have regular rivets holding it onto the dash. Is this also not how it should be? Is there anything bad that can come from this? I don't want to have trouble with the dmv or police if I buy it because of this.

regular rivets are from the factory as is the black dash that doesn't match the interior. that's just how they made them. there should be a matching vin stamped on the firewall... i can't remember where exactly on these models. you can confirm numbers with that though.

Oh ok. I had no idea that was stock. So it isn't anything to worry about then? Is there anything I should check on these that is prone to going bad? I've never had a 4th gen so I'm not to familiar with them. This one seems perfect though for a good price. I just wish it was a 5 speed instead of an auto then it truel would be exactly what I want.

at the end of the day, the cops would not be able to do anything about not having the factory dash in the car, as long as the vins match up you should be good to go

as for things to look at, just regular up keep items... brakes, tires, t-belt been done at the appropriate interval. spark plug tubes can leak oil, so you want to see that those are dry. there are some things like the main relay and the coil in the distributor that are common to fail... but you can't really tell if they're about to, you just have to be prepared to replace them when they do.

Thanks. Why in the world did they put a black dash in a car where everything from the dash down and from the dash back is tan? That's why the color of the dash threw me off.

if you've done any kind of upholstry work before, recovering a dash is not too hard. you can pick up some vinyl to match the interior... if it gets to where it bothers you enough to motivate
