99 Honda Accord wheel and tire question
Hi guys, I just bought a 99 Honda Accord EX I4. The woman who owned it before me.. liked to hit curbs..lol
I would like to buy new wheels and all season tires. I can't afford more than 1000$ to spend on the package... I might go to Town Fair Tire or Tire Rack, is there any brand I should stay away from, any brand that would be ok... Any size I should stay away from? I went to TFT and they said that anywhere from 15-17 would be fine and I wouldn't have to lower the car...
Any thoughts?

Re: 99 Honda Accord wheel and tire question (YeuEmMaiMai)
second the BFG Traction T/A.
when i replaced the tires on mine last year i narrowed it down to these two -
BFG Traction T/A
GY Assurance Tripletred
I had decided on the BFG until someone told me about the GY. They are simply amazing tires. Very long treadlife. Excellent wet and snow traction (for an all-season tire). Just bear in my mind that they are directional tires so wont be able to cross-rotate them. And they are pricey. Had it not been for the $50 rebate on GY at that time, I would have probably bought the BFGs.
oh btw, Congratulations!

That is a lot of $$$ for some stock originals bro. I got a set of 18's for $330 and tires for $350 and they are way tighter than stocks.

How bad of shape are the old rims in? I might be interested in buying them, How about a few pics. These will work on my 99 ex v6 (5 lug) correct?

I bought a new rim for my '99 LX I4 a year or so ago. Cost was ~ $55 for the rim, and ~ $18 for the plastic hubcap.
So, call it $75 x 4 = $300 plus tax for new rims and new plastic hubcaps from your local Honda dealer. Check http://www.handa-accessories.com , they'll charge ~ 20% or 25% less (effectively giving you a mechanic's discount) though you'll pay shipping, but no tax unless you are in California.
As far as tires go, are you looking for good tires that don't make a lot of noise and give relatively good handling? I like Michelin's, though not the MXV4 Plus' that came on the car (too much road noise on those plus I slid too much on ice / snow - hard to prove but I still think the MXV4 Plus' are bad on ice / snow). ~ $100 each, mounted with lifetime warranty and with disposal of old tires.
$700 will get you basically back to new OEM.
By the way, are you sure you need new rims? Or are your plastic hubcaps just scuffed up? If it's just the hubcaps, just buy new hubcaps. If you want to go cheap, buy just two new ones and put them on the same side of the car and put the two best of the four you now have on the other side of the car.

I think you should try ebay or something similar, theres no reason that you should be paying that much for stock wheels. I paid about 700 for 18 inch rims and tires. Got the rims from ebay and they look fantastic, tires from tirerack. Dont waste your $$$ on factory wheels unless you like that look, not my taste personally.
