96 EX Accord Keeps dieing but starts up.
Hi, i don't post much on the forums since i usually find all my answers searching. But i cannot find any post with the same issues as mines. Any inputs will be appreciated.
Car: Honda Accord 96 (4dr) Auto EX.
The car ran fine before this issue started happening. The car would start up fine (usually when engine is cold) regular idle around 1500rmps when cold. Then if you drive it for about 2-3 mins the car completely shuts off. In those 2-3mins it drives good, but after it shuts off and warms up it seems to hesitate more if you tried to start it more (like its choking). Sometimes it wont even fire up. There is a check engine light, but the light has always been on before the issue. The only code its throwing is Code 80 (Eight long blinks) which is "EGR Insufficient Flow Detected". If i wait till the car is cold again, the same process starts over. I checked to make sure i have proper spark, i think im getting good fuel, not sure what else can cause the car to just shut off like this... Any help would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my fiancée's 98 TL a while back. It turned out to be a bad ground. A mechanic friend told me this was pretty common on Hondas/Acuras. That might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked all the three major grounds and they all look good. I might take out the grounds and clean the area and put them back on to make sure.
Anybody else have any inputs?

So you have an EGR code.....once the car gets warm-normal op temp (closed loop) it dies.....lets think about this just for a minute.

you could pull the vacuum line off the EGR and it won't turn off once it reaches operating temperature and gives you plenty of time to fix it. But problem could be a couple of different things, bad EGR, bad ground or even a bad ECU. I had that problem before on my 94 Coupe, It turned out to be a bad ECU. Put in a chipped p28 and called it a day . Just an option
