92 Accord DX Was running fine then just DIED... Please Help Newbie...
Hey everyone !!
My first post here at honda-tech...
my 92 accord dx 5 speed today was running GREAT, then all of a sudden just died while I was doing about 30mph... I tried spraying either in the air intake and it doesnt catch, car doesnt have spark, all my pullies are turning over as I try to crank it, My friend suggested its the distrubitor, But before I spend $150 I want to make sure its that and not the timing belt.. My car has 178,000 on it and the timing belt was done around 110,000 so I should be good in that sense, How can I tell if it is indeed the timing belt or the dist, coil? anything else???
Please help and THANK YOU in advance !!!
-Keith

Pull off the distributor cap and see if the rotor turns when you crank the engine.

Ok, and if it does turn, The timing belt is still good...
Then whats the next step? How will I know it isnt a bad coil and its the distrubitor?
Thanks for the fast reply too !!!

what CHIO suggests works well but if u dont want to pull the cap off there is an easier way,,, just remove the oil filler cap and see if rocker arms move up and down ,,if so, t-belt is not broken ,,,

I completly understood to take off the cap and see if the rotor turns, but if it DOES TURN, then what do I look for?? Then am I 100% certain its the dist ?
Thanks

Well I confirmed it was not the timing belt via the oil fill cap... Then popped off the cap on the dist and the rotor turned, also noticed it was pretty ROUGH looking and the lil plastic shield inside was cracked up so I went and bought a new dist, cap, rotor, plugs and wires and all is good now. ..
