90 accord lx - Replacing heater hose, broke ECT sensor - symptons
Hello,
I got a hole in my heater hose while leaving work. Coolant leaked out. The temp gauge never reached the red, but was close.
Got the heater hose replaced the next day, filled it with coolant, but then the car had trouble starting. Took 3 tries, and it was fine before everything happened. The check engine light was on, and the "S" is flashing on the dash. Neither had been on prior to replacing the heater hose. Looked again, and realized I had broke the connector to a sensor under the distributor. Looking online, I'm pretty sure it's the ECT sensor.
The temp gauge on my dash works, so I thought I would get it fixed later. But, my car continues to have trouble starting when cold, idles low (like, 200 RPM low) and today started being hesitant accelerating from a stop until it warmed up. The engine seems to be idling rougher now as well. Could this all be caused by the bad ECT sensor? I don't see the connection.

The ECT sensor lets the ECU know if the coolant is cold or warm. The ECU can then adjust for a rich or lean mixture. Your drivability issues when the car is cold is probably directly related to the ECT sensor. When it is cold, the ECU would normally adjust the mixture to run richer.
