2001 Honda Accord Coupe - Side Air Bag Light
I recently purchased a used Accord. The side air bag light comes on occasionally. Is that normal? The dealer said it is normal if some in either in the passenger seat or the drivers seat. The factory book doesn't say anything about the drivers side only the passenger side and the light coming on sometimes when someone leans on that seat.

Yep same thing here, if someone sits funny in the passenger side the SRS light will come on. But it only happens on the passenger side, it would not make senses for it to come on the drivers side.

the light comes on when the airbag turns off.
it turns off when it senses something in the seat that might be affected negatively impacted by an airbag deployment.

if nothing is on the seat and you have no electrical devices on or near the seat and the light still comes on it could be your opds unit or sensor
short out your scs connector and read any dtc's
15-3 or 15-1 is opds unit and/or sensor

The SRS light would be on in this case, right?

6th gen accords have a few minor problems, i dont remember the other ones but i no for sure that this particular annoyance appears just because 6th gen accords have some overly sensitive sensors. i had my ride checked up 2wice just to make sure and that's what all the garages say.

Funny you mention this. My gf's 00 coupe v6 has had all the cables changed last year for the same problem. The light went off (they resetted it too), now back after 4 months. Then they changed the unit for over $1200 and resetted the light, well the light came back after 3 weeks. The final excuse was that it was cuz she tended to take off her seat belts before she turned off the engine when she was parking the car. If you do this a few times, the light comes on. It sounds stupid to me, afterall the airbag light is a warning indicator for a defective airbag unit not to warn you to keep your damn seat belt on isnt it??? Thats my thinking at least.
