1991 accord severe belt squeak after belt change
1991 accord f22au 4dr
today i jumped the gun and removed my alternator thinking it was bad. as it turns out, the alternator is fine. i replace the belt and put the power steering pump back on and alternator and crank it up. SCREECH. so i cut the car back off and loosen the pulleys thinking i had overtightened them. SCREECH. loosen some more. nope. tighten, nope. i removed all the components and checked to see if any of them were bad. all the other components seem to roll fine, but the alternator has just a small noise when turning. do you guys think this is it? has anyone else had this problem? how tight should the belts be?

ok i will readjust it tomorrow, i have a lifetime warranty on the alternator so im going to replace it anyway. would it being too loose cause any problems? how tight should the power steering pump belt be? also, the clutch fell off of my a/c compressor and it is just free spinning. just thought i should say that just in case.
this is driving me and the neighbors crazy lol!

What? NOW we get the rest of the story..........
The clutch disc? OR the clutch hub? If the A/C compressor has a bad clutch hub bearing...you are spinning your wheels dealing with the Alt belt tension.

The pulley for the compressor is fine. The clutch just came off the nut on the spindle and fell. The whole piece, that is as far as i can identify it. There is only a pulley like the rest of the accessories now. The pulley for the compressor spins freely and stays in place though. I could be completey wrong, and this could be a horrible thing, but before i messed with it the belt was fine. Not a whole nother story, just maybe the next chapter.
Should i just delete the whole A/C and go with the delete belt(there is a delete belt right)? I kind of wanted to just leave it in there for the winter and fix it next spring, keeping my current belt and replacing the compressor when i got back to warmer weather.

Well, as it turns out, I did have a bad bearing inside the alternator. Replaced it today and its running like a champ! Hondadude, I still want your insite on this pulley for the A/C. Like I said it was spinning fine and functioning properly so far.
