00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
Well some of you may know I started to get COOLANT into my oil pan. And I have lost a severe ammount of torque. I replaced headgasket and did not cure my problem, and im still losing coolant like mad. My oil pressure light started to come on for about a week when the engine got warmed up, it has not been on for 2 days as of now. i came to the conclusion that i have a cracked block with 90k miles on the engine....
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I have since ordered a JDM f23a for 500$ plus shipping from Jdmenginedepot.com and it came in today. the motor looks pretty good i opend up the valve cover and it looked good. and the timing was still good. ill get some pics up soon here.
i have noticed a few differences.
injectors / fuel rail - i will most likely use my fuel rail so i dont have to recrimp the line.
throttle body housing
and there are a few extra sensors that i think were pluged on my head.
for now this is what i got and have looked at. i will be working on the swap tomarrow. after i plan out what i need to reroute.
untill then ne sugestions are welcome. pics tonight if i get back to my garage.
The Start.

thats part of the EVAP system. while technically you don't need it for the car to run, if you use the stock ECU, it will throw a code(s) without it, and it may not pass emissions depending on where you live.

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap.
well i live in illinois, no emmisions so DONT CARE
at the quick glance at the motor it looked like the jdm didnt even have a inlet port for it.
i may just end up using the A1 upper manifold - to save a headache
thx for imput.
WELL time to get to work ... ill have some picks and update later today.

DAY ONE
well after the first day of work got some progress...
everything was going good .
Harness is out and all the electrical stuff that gets in the way :-p
(forgot to take pick of what it looks like atm, will be up)
BUT
Then i get to the RUSTED X10 axel nut
First - idea 500lb tq wrench - air AND electric wouldnt budge it a single bit.
Second - get "some" heat on it , very minimal so bearing wouldnt get damaged, still NOTHING.
Third - GET A BIG breaker bar 3/8 converted to 3/4 to fit socket and 6 ft steel pole LOOK DOWN AT THIS.
WTF REALLY !?!?!?!?!?!? - "dude that was deffinatly the wrong sound"
Forth and final trys - take chisel to nut as shown below - then hope to hell torque wernch works
BADA BIG and its off. after 1.5 hours -
THX HONDA CAN WE MAKE PARTS THAT DONT CORRODE !
So as of today i got the right side axel out of the trans , just gotta get the left one out and then undo motor mounts.
everything was going good .

I have a question thou for the more experienced.
the issue of my Valve Purge Control Valve
on the F23a1 the port coming out of the Throttle body is near the cyl 4 runner
on the F23a the port coming out of the throttle body is differnt -
as shown in comparative picturesbelow
atleast i think its the port - i dont were i can find Parts diagrams for JDM motors -
F23a1 - the pipe sticking out next to the pcv
F23a - the pipe sticking out behind the map sensor.
can ne one confirm this ??

Question
This connector came on the F23A - shown below
On my f23a1 motor it has a plug in it ...
Im guessing its some EXTRA JDM emmisions thing.
If i remember i just cut the connection being that my harness did not have the other end.

Day Two
well today while working for 8 hours , took driver side axel out of trans, droped the front motor mount frame , disconected the motor mounts and took the F23a1 out with tranny.
We then had to take off the transmision , clutch fly wheel, and mount it to the F23a
another missing part too ... the lower block n trans housing was gone. so had to take it off the F23a1 and put it on too.
N oops the knock sensor broke off F23a block. just swaped mine.
as for Intake and throttle body sensor and port position issues i just saved the headache and put the intake from the F23a1 and putin on the F23a.
And it didnt have cruise control !?! and its tps sensor was broken from shipping.
Te F23a is now in the car, we droped it in , attached the axels back in, attached motor mounts, put on the front motor mount frame back up n called it a day.
Wrkin like crazy - i only have untill tomarrow to get it running agian or im f you see k'd
Sry no pictures really wasnt on my mind. - really doing this swap is quite str8 forward.
But if you have ne questions let me hear them
One thing thou .. are jdm oil filter mounts completely different ?
meaning i have to order jdm filter every time ?

Day Three
started off my connecting up the ac and throttle body
the VALVE TIMING OILPRESSURE sensor on the F23a is not there. i put the one from the F23a1 from the plug, also vtec soleioid wire was different so i spliced it.
then installed rest of wire harness
blead the clutch
connected up radiator n filled
did an oil change
it started right up
i have all my torque back
but im thinking i prolly shoulda spent the money and put a new clutch in. its slipping a little more then i want it to . but prolly just needs some adjustment.
one thing i did forget to do was refill manual trans fluid some leaked out but yea oops
these bolts are a nightmare to get to will be doing this tomarrow
there is a wright up on how to do it the eazy way if u go the tools.

Re: Question
[QUOTE=whitewonder;38620863]Second question for the Exprienced.
WHAT THE HELL is this sensor on my F23a ?? ... its on the head on cyl 4 side.
QUOTE]
looks like the coolant temp sensor that sends the signal to your temp guage on your instrument cluster, the one to the left sends a signal to your ecu, i learned this the hard way haha, they are located under your dizzy right?

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
and for the post on the sensor ... its blocked on the usdm with a bolt so most likly it dont matter and no cel.. and my temp is well within range.

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
if u read my post a little closer on that matter you could see i was asking for an opinion of just leaving the sensor or blocking it with the bolt in my usdm
so i went the eazy n not no nice looking way and left it in.

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
i got it for 670$ shipped to my door. ebay = 850 range. other sites were 550-1300$ 1300$ was for 15-30k engine miles
From jdmenginedepot.com im haveing a little trouble with the missing parts they said i was saposed to have on my engine
tbh i didnt even want to look for a Junkyard engine . at least with a jdm import u know u have less then 50k on the motor.. or so they say.
if u can find a COMPLETE f23a or a1 for under that its prolly got 200k on it . lol
yes i did have to use f23a1 intake and exhaust manifolds
the intake looks the same but there are a few differences.
the exhaust manifold on a jdm is 4-2 usdm is 4-1
but i have a few plans for this car ... dont know what will happen but i got some goals. im looking into boosting but jsut dont know if i will have that kind of time while going to school and working .
when i go get the old engine from my buddys house ill have something to play with . n to see just what went wrong with it. the head was in perfect condition when i replaced the headgasket when i thought that was the problem. so we will see

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
yeah... my front end had an experience with a now DEAD RACOON but this is my style
when i get my engine running like i want it to ill be working on moving battery to trunk and tucking up a few things to make my bay look nicer.
then we will worry about body work

Re: 00 f23a1 to f23a jdm swap. -PICs-
well i had the effort in me to try and change my vtec solenoid.
i disconnected the vtec connecter bracket and took out the sensor took off the harness from mounts and fisrt 3 injectors dizzy connector and the hose that goes from valve cover to intake.
then i took off the 3 dam bolts that hold it on 10mm..
took off ghetto rig connector and solderd it back on..
attached the usdm one reconnected everything. GUESS WHAT i have vtec agian. yay.
i knew something wasnt right.
valve adj last thing for the engine.
