you have any buddies that have done it before and two days off, you could probably save yourself $250. I hate taking my car to the shop. I always feel raped for something that I could have done

Where the F*CK was that? When I was being too lazy to do that on my coupe I was being quoted $600 to $700+ by Honda AND private shops. Shops will charge you $250-$300 in parts alone. I finally just got off my ***, bought Ryan some new tools and we did it together.

Guys, I know this isn't the proper forum for this, but if you'd be so kind as to check out the link in my signature, it would be really appreciated.
Here's a little background from a Myspace bulletin I posted. If you wouldn't care to donate, we'd all really appreciate it if you'd post a bulletin or something. Thanks in advance guys.
My girlfriend's younger brother, Ian, received a double lung transplant back in October of 2006, and this has left her family in enormous debt. A fundraiser was established to cover medical expenses AND ONLY medical expenses for Ian. **** her parents can't cover and insurance/the government won't cover. So, while you and I got to grow up fine for the most part, this little dude who enjoys playing video games is running out of time without the support of everyday people.
Here's something that my girlfriend wrote, and posted, and I'm just keeping this alive. Flood the expletiveing internet. Quit doing surveys. Quit asking for retards you don't even know to "cmnt ur pix". Copy and paste this **** into a bulletin (IT'S THE LEAST YOU CAN DO) if you're not going to donate a couple bucks. ANYTHING helps.
"This fundraiser is back in order and we're beginning to raise money again through the Childrens Organ Transplant Association.
A few things you should know:
Yeah, Ian has already recieved a double lung transplant and is doing awesome right now, but the life-span of a lung transplant, much less a double, isn't very great. The average life-span is about 5-7 years. On occasion you get lucky and they last a lot longer.
It's not so much that the lungs themselves go bad again, but that the immunosuppresents that he is on are doing severe damage to his other organs (E.G. kindey, liver, heart) and more problems can develop requiring another organ transplant that he would not be able to receive due to interference of the current medications.
In some cases the other organs will be completely fine and his body starts rejecting the medications, therefore he'll also start rejecting the current lungs and will need to get another double lung transplant in order to live, making things a little more serious than his last transplant due to the fact that there is no way to sustain him until he can.
Now all that aside, COTA is helping by raising funds to cover any related medical expenses. The money raised is NOT accessible for any other uses than medical and any withdrawal from the account has to be approved and cleared by COTA themselves. This eliminates the worry of anyone else trying to use it. No one will EVER have access to it.
Currently there has been no money raised, and his account balance is at $0. Ian is about to go back to St.Louis, MO and into the O.R. to have a steel bar removed from his chest (they put this in to correct his pectis because it was so concave from all of the problems growing up). The cartlidge has grown back in properly so there is no need for him to have it anymore.
Unfortunately, Medicaid does not cover the cost of transportation or living for his visit there, and thats where COTA comes in to help make sure that he gets to and from his doctor appointments with no hassle or worry.
To get to the point, it would be really generous and kind of any of you to please repost this link in any of your bulletins about whatever the hell you post about and help spread the word, it would also be even more kind of you to donate even the smallest possible amount you wish to his fund.

that honestly shouldnt take you more than one day with the proper tools. do you have a torque wrench? you'll need it for the nead studs/bolts. Do a little research on how to do it, start early, and if you can get a friend that has done some of this before, it would help you a lot.
no male friends around to help me really unfortunately. thats part of the reason why i am thinking about having honda, or a good shop do it (not really too interested in honda due to possible cost). i do have a torque wrench and have no problem really doing it, its just no help, and lack of car downtime.
i will check prices tomorrow. i just hope my motor is not in bad shape since i put this off for 2 years. burning a little coolant which headgasket replacement should take care of.

Cota = Children's Organ Transplant Association
My g/f's brother received a double lung transplant in October 2006 and her family/insurance can't cover the majority of the expenses. And Ian's family is crippled with debt. He's 8. Donate money please.
ANYTHING helps. The money DOES NOT go to the family. It's for medical related expenses ONLY.

I think $150-250 is reasonable for labor on a timing belt and water pump replacement.
but once you throw in a headgasket.. you're talking about some more hours on the book. The head needs to be checked for warpage and possibly resurfaced. The valves also need to be adjusted.
Just for reference, most shops charge anywhere from $60-100+ per hour for shop labor.

so with the replacement of the headgasket, they will tell me if the head is warped...... there is a chance it could be warped, my radiator cap was no longer functioning correctly for a while before i found that out. if head is toast, i may just get a d15b or d16z6 (or newer non-vtec motor) to replace the stock d16a6.
thats what I ended up doing.
snapped a timeing belt, checked prices on how much to change it, opted to just swap in a new motor.
Thats what a lot of people do, they just use the price of the timing belt labor as a way to swap in a new motor
Plus with the new motor you can go ahead and do all the stuff saving yourslf the trouble for a while
