You can either buy new bars, or get the threadless adapter that Nitto makes and buy the threadless stem that you want.

u bought mtn bike oversized risers .... most quilll stems (threaded) do not go higher than 26.0mm in diameter.

the bars you got for designed for threadless applications.

solbrothers. to convert from threaded to threadless you need the following: a 1" threadless headset, 1" threadless stem ( OR a 1 1/8 stem with a shim), a 1" threadless fork (long enough to compensate for the stack height of the new headset and the hieght of the stem) and your new bars.

or you could jus buy a quill to threadless stem adaptor, and a new stem. that is probably your best and cheapest bet to use those oversized bars. the adaptor doesnt need to be nitto a bunch of companies make em and u can find em for 10 bucks. i actually have a spare one hint hint =OP

but they do make mokeylites in 25.4

oh and misha, the reason why u can put the chain ring on both sides is because the cranks are road doubles. they are meant to have a chain ring on both sides. putting it on the inside gives you a better chainline. theres nothing wrong with road double cranks. the sugino "messenger" rd crank arms are actually road double cranks as well.
