The gauge (ear hole) is 7\8" the ring it self is 2 3\8"

Are you talking about a FUEL PUMP on a wagon ? If so , You don't have to drop the tank . You can get to it by folding the rear seats foward and lifting the black mating . Did mine in the dead of winter while sitting in the back of the wagon . Cold as F@#& outside that day too .
