make sure when you turn the car on that the temp is at cold, and the fan is off. the car will heat up 4x faster then if you had it on high heat and fan.

correct!!! Kids 12 & under free! I had a good day out with the guys. Definitely a good inexpensive outing, so to speak!

Morning fellas
Rolla, I feel you dude, I have the aluminum "race" radiator as well since my OEM one was demolished in my wreck. It takes a long time to heat up.
Congrats battle on your motor being in.

Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
You guys should ditch the blingy stuff and get a radiator designed for your engine. Not warming up means you stay in open loop which means the ECU ignores certain signals which means you run like poo which means your combustion chamber fills with deposits.
Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
First off modern cars should be driven in the 3500 and beneath rpm to warm up. Years ago ppl. Misconstrued that all cars should wam up at idle. That is FALSE! I have an aluminum radiator as well, and my car heats up in 3-4 blocks 2-3mins time. I just hop in and go!

Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
Ash: PLEASE stop using turtle wax stuff, it sucks!!!! Especially the rubbing compound. If you want good cheap stuff get Poorboysworld. And their wax is cheap too and is some amazing stuff. Any wax you buy at wal mart is pretty much ****. The 3m rubbing compiund you can get there is decent but thats it. I've invested a good chunk of change in detailing stuff and ive done 3 paid jobs so far and 2 of mine and my families cars. I use meguiars and poorboys world products and well lets say that the lexus i last did the owner just stood there in shock for a few mins. Trust me when i say use poorboys world wax, i waxed it a week later and the shine just got that much deeper. What you see here is a Kalsse that i put on for winter protection

Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
A guy here put a huge Koyo radiator in his GSR powered Civic. The car never gets up to normal operating temps. I prefer to run a simple stock-sized radiator because it is efficient and doesn't cause my car to run in sub temps.
And Mike is completely correct about the extra fuel burn and faster buildup of carbon deposits. If you must run a larger radiator for bling effect.... you NEED to swap out the thermostat and the switch.

Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
I dunno about the switch, but definitely the Tstat. I still run my single cam radiator on my GSR, never heats up, always warms up right. Temp control is all in the Tstat, a larger radiator with more cores and fins gives you a higher potential to radiate more heat, not necesarrily a good thing.
Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
This is the guy that would know about cold starts. And like Scott said your car will warm up faster if your vent settings are at cold, the reason for this is because there is an additional radiator located inside of your dash used for the heater. Keep coolant out of this radiator by closing a valve when putting the temp to cold, this helps keep only the small amount of coolant thats inside of the engine out of both the main radiator and heater core allowing the engine to warm up to operating temp first before cooling the coolant down.
Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
"The secret of the thermostat lies in the small cylinder located on the engine-side of the device. This cylinder is filled with a wax that begins to melt at perhaps 180 degrees F (different thermostats open at different temperatures, but 180 F/82 C is a common temperature). A rod connected to the valve presses into this wax. When the wax melts, it expands significantly and pushes the rod out of the cylinder, opening the valve." - HowStuffWorks

But if you think that you can jump in and go. Hey it's your car and your money.
Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
I was just referring to my experience with the Spoon Thermo Switch. My bad. Probably most people on here are using the stock switch.
How's everyone doing? Hows the xmas shopping? Anybody got any good ideas for the ladies in your life? Always good to bounce ideas off other guys, that way if we all screw up at least we didn't do it alone. lol.
