y8 has better quench area design / which bumps the compression slightly, BUT helps ward off detonation.

I am going with a y8.

Both are good — I would say use what you got! If you go all out and p/p the hell out of it and everythign else… I believe the z6 would be a better place to start. but not many people get to the point where it makes a difference.

z6 breathes better and, assuming you have a OBDI car, the wiring will be easier

what wiring? its the same.. if youre talking about the dizzy, just use a b7 dizzy and i believe a z6 will work with some notching.

Well heres the deal.. Im currently running the y8/y7 obd2 mini me setup... And I have a chance to pick up a z6 head for cheap... Like 50 dollars cheap. My turbo setup is also nearing completion...

Will the obd2 dizzy from my y8 not fit the z6?? Does it matter?

Oh forgot to mention, I will be running a uberdata chipped p28 when the turbo goes on.

So is there a difference between the obd2 y8 dizzy and obd1 z6 dizzy? are they interchangable... Say i wanted to run an obd1 dizzy on a y8 head? Or vice versa?

I think they're interchangeable, run crome on the p28 though, MUCH better.

I need a solid answer from someone!

And yea... What makes crome so much better? keep in mind I'm on a budget. Although crome pro isnt that expensive.....

No need for crome pro, just get normal crome, free, more use friendly mainly, more features, more support. I dunno for sure on the ecu, but someone will.

If the z6 flows better then why is the y8 manifold called the "type r" manifold for the d series.. its all opinion based.. I rock a y8 5 days a week. In my hatch and in my old ex which i swapped in a b20. they flow very and boost very well.. ive seen better things from y8 heads here in mn

Alright... can anyone explain why the z6 is better? With some facts? Not just "it flows better"

id go with the z6, i have heard good things about the z6 for boost applications. Both heads are very reliable, personally I would just use what ever head i could find.
here is the major physical difference
z6

y8

z6 HEAD flows better, not the z6 manifold.
Yes, the y8 MANIFOLD flows better than the z6 manifold.

Its not opinion based, check the ratings (No, Im not going to look for them for you).

I never voted; I just stated that the z6 head flowed better and had lower compression (due to design). Thats true...and neither are really that important for this application.
In reality, it would probably be best to use the y8, due to the quench area (If I didnt chose this, I would be a hypocrite for using flat top pistons in my build). It isnt hard to do a little porting on the head to make it flow just as well as the z6 either.
Both heads are going to be similary priced, so that isnt really a factor.

Z6 head > Y8 Head

From personal opinion. I have a Y8 head on my built SOHC mini me. Swapped it for a Z6 head, and it was a WORLD of difference. All the way through out the power band. And both were tuned. Too bad I sold the car before I could dyno it again, but no lie it was up 15-20 Hp.

That is just from some experience. I was having problems with the Y8 head ever since I swapped cams. But the Z6 still beat the Y8 head when it was fresh. It felt like another car.

the z6 and y8 distrubitor is interchangable BUT if you might have to do some modification as the mounting legs are somewhat off a little

the dizzy's are not interchangable. the bolt holes dont line up. you can make it fit with some fab....

if you already have the z6 head keep it. but you can make the y8 flow better with a port job.

platinum.

Whats funny, is most of all of your votes are coming from just "here say". A lot of people have said "the Z6 flows better"....but wheres your proof?

Anyone have CFM graphs of both heads for comparison?
