Default y8 blowing smoke?

hey guys i have a d16y8 in my hatch and running a t3/t4 50 trim turbo. I am getting white or gray smoke and alot of it, I thought was the turbo so i put a new on in and same problem. The car is on a crap of a tune just waiting to get to the shop. The car is running very lean if you boost on it the wide band reads up to about 16 when think it should be at about 12-12.8. I dont get on the car not trying to blow it up, My question is could the tune being so bad cause it to smoke bad or am i looking at rings or valve guides some one plz help me thanks alot

White smoke is usually coolent.... Headgasket maybe. and since you know it leans out to 16 that means u obviously spooled the turbo up, could be a lot of things after that! Do a compression check and report back

I would strongly advise against tuning the car to 12.8 under boost/WOT.

thanks guys i dont think it is the head gasket i have not done compression test yet going to do tomorrow but when i pull the oil cap i get some smoke coming out of it and there is oil residue on the muffler tips inside. I have been looking around on line could this be caused by pcv valve i know its a long shot but whats your thought

Your driving around with a boosted car you admit is running rediculously lean. You have white/grey smoke and oil inside your exhaust. White smoke is coolant, grey is more fuel related. Since you already ruled out running rich and you say you have evidence of oil in the exhaust I would strongly suspect the headgasket. You need to do a compression test and investigate the cooling system. Have you pulled the radiator cap off? Does it pressurize the radiator hoses quickly? Overheating at all, even running warm? You loosing coolant? Some "smoke" from the oil cap area is normal when you pull the cap off on a hot engine. You'll see that even on stock engines... Im not talking about it pouring out smoke or anything, just a light amount of vapor floating around..

If the problem was your PCV, I HIGHLY doubt you would ever be drawing in enough oil to coat your exhaust.

How much boost are you running? It is possible your head is lifting when you do hit boost causeing "blow by" that would cause white smoke and oil to burn off also, but if your compression is good id definalty suspect the headgasket
