Default WTF Dyno #'s!!!!!Need input...

I have a '99 turbo si with the greddy 18g kit......running rc 440's 2.5 in exhast....je pistons w/eagle rods and i only put down 180whp with a tune on crome w/ 10psi? does that sound normal? i still have the original greddy downpipe and a cat and silencer.....would that really be holding me back that much for hp? had the car tuned with crome and af is around 11.1-11.4 all the way through......

any suggestions would be great on what i need to do to get the numbers up.....this sucks.....need to make more power!

get rid of the greddy downpipe, and 3 inch exhuast with no cat, and no silencer, and you'll see a nice HP improvement.

still sounds a bit low, even with that exhaust setup

What was your ignition timnig like? Total timnig at 10psi? Could just be no timing.

I made 273whp at 12psi so yeah you are definitely low. Like the guy above me said check the timing...

There u go, that downpipe is less than 2" in diameter, I know I had the same kit as you in 2001/2002. Out the box, stock everything at 5.5 psi, 18G 2000 Si, I put down 175 whp 140 tq WITH THE BLUE BOX.

Start with the exhaust, but you may have other motor problems. Do a leakdown test lately? How did you break that motor in with the new internals?

Als, whats your C/R with those pistions?

i would start with exhaust and go from there. But like suggested do a compression test and leak down. That number is way low, sounds like there are other problems besides upgradignt eh exhaust. But exhaust is a must if want to make power...

Yeah something is wrong for sure.

I have a bone stock d16y8 and pushing 180 whp on 5lbs of boost.

come on mike, you know thats not the problem

honestly man, you have a 1.6 liter with lowered compression(the forged internals are not helping you until you turn up the boost), a catalytic convertor, and a greddy kit. the greddy kit was designed to make a non turbo car perform like a factory turbo car. it was not designed to make big numbers at all. with a good exhaust you may bump your power up to about 200whp at the same boost level but i honestly think your numbers are pretty close for what you have. if you want big numbers ditch the greddy kit and cat

well if his compression ratio happens to be 9 to 1 then he will make less at his boost than a stock bottom end would. Do what the others said above and double the boost and check timing!

It's your exhaust, cat, downpipe, whatever. Hugely restrictive, plus you have a lower CR setup so you'll make less power at the same boost. Fix the DP and crank the boost (in that order), that's why you went low CR in the first place!

He needs to know his C/R, for all we know he could be running 8 to 1.

get mase to tune it and you'll prolly make like 94572408752109783419 whp. yeah, bigger dp, exhaust and more boost won't hurt either. btw, i believe his c/r is 9:1

i'm running 9:1 compression pistsons.....gonna run a compression test tomm.....what type of compression should i be looking for.......will it be the same as stock compression numbers higher lower? also i put a new filter on the intake pipe and noticed there was some oil around the end of the piping? i was wondering if that was blow by.......

just really don't know what the expletive is going on.....took the car out tonight and it just felt dead......it loaded up on a 2nd gear pull too......i mean i put the car on the dyno and had a someone tune the car with crome.....i thought the bugs and **** would be out of it.........

i'm looking at throwing an sc61 on the car now to get some bigger numbers and get the car runnig stronger......but like i said advice helps and i'm wide open to any suggestions that someone wants to throw out at me......

I would just double check everything in the motor is swell. After that put that new manifold and turbo on there and 3 inch exhaust all the way back and get it re tuned and call it a day. Just hope that everything in the motor is swell.

Edit: As far as the compression numbers go, I have learned that as long as they arent to low, and the numbers are consistent across the board then the motor is doing good...

thank will definately be doing that....also the car is set on stock timing? would that be a problem? i think i just need to break things down and see what is going on.... i haven't changed the oil or checked the plugs since i have picked up the car....i didn't throw in i bought it turbo'd already and it was untuned running the stock 4.5 lbs the wastegate was set for........

What does everyone think the A/F ratio should be tuned for at WOT????

the afr is under 11 until it gets up into boost wot and then it stays between 11-12 consistent.

wtf? thats with a b16 right. for sure get rid of the cat and if you got the money bigger dp with 3" exhaust but if you have emissions might have to find another way. but thats crazy talk. when does boost start to hit? i dont even think i was running that bad with a cracked ring at 7psi.

Your compression should be aroung 180 psi. If it's lower than 170 I'd do a leak down. Also sounds like your typical POS greddy turbo that's leaking, hopefully that's all it is. Good luck
